This ViewSonic 17 inch monitor has been great for freeing up some deskspace. I'm a programmer, and use a linux box. I had no issues with using this monitor as the external monitor for my laptop or tower, using xrandr. The onscreen display is a little lacking, but it doesn't detract from the monitors quality. Pixel response time is fine for coding, web browsing, and watching movies, but may not be fast enough for someone who plays a lot of twitch-shooters. Only _really_ negative thing about it is that the pivot used to adjust the monitor's viewing angle is a tad stiff. All in all, a good monitor - and you won't go broke buying one either.
I bought this monitor two years old and slightly used and it exceeds my standards. I have a 22" widescreen LCD that I use for myself, and the picture quality on this Viewsonic looks just as good, though obviously the picture isn't as big. The stand is a bit stiff so the base needs to be held down when adjusting, but it's very sturdy. Brightness and contrast levels are decent -- not too bright, not too dim. It also has a backlight tube on both the top and the bottom of the screen so the lighting is distributed evenly for a better vertical viewing angle. Even though there is only a connector for VGA and not DVI, it's impossible to tell the difference at the resolutions this monitor offers (up to 1280x1024). Overall, this is probably one of the best 17" monitors I've used, and it looks better cosmetically too, with the thin frame around the edge and the lack of tacky speakers that would sound like junk anyway.Read full review
I decided to buy this monitor because I still had a old giant dinosaur monitor that took up half of my computer desk. At my old job they had Viewsonic Monitors and I looked for one on here cause I have already worked with them. Good color, easy controls, very thin and at a decent price. Overall I am satisfied with the monitor.
ViewSonic is the best. I love it's brightness, and speed. I don't have any dislikes about it! I heard it was okay, tried it, and I replaced all of my home TV's, and moniters with this Name Brand. Sony, LG, and all thos other expensive name brands can kiss my azz! I will never go back to them...
I started off with one of these in 2005. I upgraded my computer in '08 and got another to run dual monitors. Both sync perfectly and I love the extended desktop. These monitors allow me to get more work done at home than at the office! The software was easy to install and I just checked to find there have been no updated drivers, which is rare. You can't go wrong with this monitor if you can still find one- manufacturer discountinued for the new HDMI-too expensive monitor technology. Have a great day!!
