The Contax TVS III 35mm Camera it's one of the BEST point and shoot ever made. It takes SHARP AS HELL pictures and colors so alive they leak the subject's lines! It's absurd that a camera that small could be that good. I didn't say "the best point and shoot" because there is still the Contax T2 and T3 that have pretty much the same optics. I onw a Yashica T4 Super and before i got the TVS here, i really thought nothing could top it. I had a surprise when revealed my first film with the TVS, and would stop using the T4 if it wasn't for it's practicity. That's one of the two down points of the TVS: From spotting a photo, taking the TVS out of the case, pressing the button, turning that dial to AF, waiting for the lens protection to open and the lens to set, framing the photo, half-pressing the shutter button to focus and set the photometry and THEN fully pressing it...usually takes about 10-20 seconds. Another bummer is that the flash takes about 5-10 seconds to recharge (depending on the intensity it was shot in the last picture). So, photojournalists (or anyone who'd REALLY care about moments in first place) are doing a bad business buying that camera. If not, it's a MUST BUY!Read full review
A precision camera in every way. Perhaps the sharperst, contratiest lens ever on a point-and-shoot camera. Can be used as an automatic point-and-shoot camera, or can be controlled manually. Contax did not provide a way to use filters . But I made a filter adapter using a vinyl chair leg tip for 1.25" diameter legs, slotted it so it would slide onto the lens easily but securely, cut a hole in the center of it for the lens to see through,, and cemented a low-cost 38 mm filter onto it after removing the glass. The zoom lens starts from a very useful 30mm wideangle focal length but only goes to 60 mm telephoto, but so many pictures can be taken with this range.
First of all, I love zeiss lenses, Easily compared to Leica, just as sharp and fantastic color, but no where near the cost. The quality of the Contax camera leaves little to be desired. While digital is very good, I find that film offers a wider alternative and in some instantses, a better latitude of color. They can be easily converted into digital. ladybrettashley
