The Netgear DGN3500 N300 is one of the few DSL modems that supports OpenWrt. OpenWrt is an open source lightweight Linux distribution that replacements the standard modem firmware. OpenWrt allows for extended functionality such as full bridge mode, wider range of support for VPNs, and the ability to compile and run custom Linux applications on the modem itself. As of 2020, this modem supports OpenWrt 19 running Linux kernel 4.14. OpenWrt also supports ADLS2+ on this modem (and can be used on Centurylink's DSL network). In addition, this modem uses the Ath9k WiFi chipset which has fully open source drivers and firmware for WiFi.

Worked like a charm, straight out of the box. Removed my old router and DSL and put this in place. Gave the same SSID name for the wireless network, ALL DEVICES connected without a HITCH. Called the Phone company and asked them for my password (had forgotten it). Put the user name password in the modem. Did not connect at first.. (I did not know some config values, what to put in them). So I took the option of auto configure (it would scan and try to connect at different options to see what works). and it connected like a CHARM!!. Wow, cannot ask for more. Had a TRENDNET WIRELESS N which my wireless network on the bedroom use to show me as connected at 65MBPS. WIth this one, it now shows 130 MBPS (double!!) and I really did not change anything. I have yet to try the USB Drive Features, but I am pretty sure its going to work the same, given the other things that worked. Oh, and by the way, I have a VONAGE router for phone, which earlier was between my network and DSL, and now I have put it behind this router.--- GUESS WHAT, NOOOO PROBLEMS!. SO FIVE STARTS FROM MY SIDE!!!Read full review
Great product. I found it at a a great price. I've been using one for years with zero problems. I bought this one as a back-up because I do business online, and my local stores don't carry an ADSL modem/router (just cable modem/routers, which is strange). Anyway, it's a bit complected to install, and the ISP company isn't much help because they don't know the product. But, it's a whole lot cheaper than renting one from them, and worth the initial hassle.

Worked like a champ, right from the box. Removed my old router and DSL Cables and put this in its place. Used the same ID name for the wireless network, and it worked perfect when i started my pc back up. ****It does take a bit longer to start up my connection though when starting the pc.**** (my old setup NETGEAR - 150 Wireless-Router started my connection the second windows hit my desktop, this one takes maybe a minute at most to start my connection.)
ITEM not for sale due to ATT . DSL police must rent from ma bell. Will use for back up and not put in place.
