Hi, The Belkin 54g router is a good router, it can handle all your daily tasks like surfing, downloading, and even gameplay, however it could be better. I have used this router for a little over a year now, i haven't been dissapointed with it, but i haven't been amazed either. The router allows you to play online games like counter-strike source, but under too much stress, it gives out. I have noticed that when i play Counter-Strike source, i often get high ping spikes and then disconnection, this is the routers fault, make note this usually only happens when someone else is downloading on another computer. In terms of range, i would say it is ok. My dekstop is about 100 feet away from the router, through walls, and a floor and i can surf ok, but sometimes it is slow. Now, on my laptop when sitting in the next room like i am now, the internet is very fast. The Utilities for this router are top-knotch, they are easy to use and very helpful. Although this router is good, unless it is on sale i would not recommend buying it. For the money, there are several other routers out there you might want to consider, for one, the belkin pre-n router, at 128mbps its much better than this router even at double the price. Hope it helps! -JackRead full review
Great little unit! Easy to set up! Provides 4 wired ports as well as Wi-Fi ability! All in one unit, no switch needed! I am also very pleased with signal strength in bedrooms of this apartment, no negligible loss, and fast internet on all! The Belkin line was my choice due to substantial savings in cost compared to other major brands! I am only giving this unit a 4 star rating (good) because there are better models available from Belkin, at least due to cost I assume they are better, and I am new to home wi-fi components and their use. Bottom line, I had things up and running in an hour! No problems! :) UPDATE! I am STILL using this unit, and it still works exactly like it did 3 years ago!!!!! :)
I bought a second handed one to use at my parents' house and route a wired connection pulled from a neighbor to a room (that is, subdivide a LAN). The wireless signal is strong enough to cross several walls and even be detected outside in the garden (I'd say it may cross at least 1.5 yards of concrete walls having to travel by a sequence of halls and rooms from its source and certainly would have a better performance in an large open room like an office or a factory / store). The disadvantages are the lack of options to set up the transmission power (I couldn't find it) and WPA2 (it supports WPA and WEP security protocols), the impossibility to control band traffic (either via MAC addresses or IP) of the users, the lack of a tool to measure the signal of other wireless network (in order to find out the channels used in the neighborhood and choose another with less interference or just to know the strength of a known router whose signal one intends to replicate via WDS function). Another drawback would be the impossibility to replace the antennas, which are not detachable (however as I pointed before its signal was strong enough to meet my needs so I didn't mind the lack of this feature). It was very easy to set up and the menu is quite simple and straightforward unlike many other routers, which may be a headache for the every day user to config by themselves.Read full review
I have the version 5001 of the F5D7230-4. I received it from Belkin after RMA'ing my original Belkin router. I have several major problems with this product. The first being the reset switch is a nightmare to push if you have to reset it to factory default settings manually... it is on the bottom of the router and is almost impossible to push. I am running the latest firmware and when I go to change settings in the firewall's virtual DMZ it hangs constantly and I have to restart my computer, router, and DSL modem to fix get the Belkin router settings page to reload (I never had this problem with my old Belkin router before it failed). Belkin tech support can be a fun ride also (like most these days its outsourced to some country that you can never understand what the person is saying). I in the end after two hours of explaining the problem to the tech support at Belkin I gave up and tinkered with it for a few hours and fixed it myself. So much for tech support. I have dealt with Linksys, Belkin, and D-Link routers before... and I can say that so far this little Belkin has been by far the most trouble I've had out of any of them.Read full review
I work from my home office as a webmaster. When I purchased a laptop in 2006 I wanted to be able to work wirelessly from the deck or a bedroom. I purchased this router and found it very easy to install, set up security and operate. I have a strong signal anywhere in my home (3,000 sq ft) and when outside, as far as 25 feet from the house. I operate this Belkin router with a cable modem. The only time it needs attention is when the power is interrupted. The router reboots faster than the cable modem. The router searches for the modem and can not find it because the modem is still booting. When this happens I unplug the router until the modem is ready, plug it back in and I'm back in business. Belkin also has free technical support which is always a benefit.
